Leadership reflections

Words worth putting to work.

A place to pause, examine the week, and take one thoughtful action. Each IGS reflection pairs a leadership perspective with a question and an action you can take into practice.

Reflection 1

What leadership allows becomes part of the lesson.

Culture takes shape from the top. What leadership consistently models, reinforces, and allows can become what the organization learns to accept as normal.

IGS leadership perspective

Put it into practice

Ask yourself: What did your team learn from the last behavior you addressed—and the last one you let pass?

One action: Identify one behavior you want reinforced. Make your response to it visible and consistent.

Reflection 2

A conversation is not complete when everyone has spoken.

The work continues in what is understood, what is agreed, and what happens next.

Put it into practice

Ask yourself: Which recent conversation ended with relief but no clear next step?

One action: Return to it with one action, an owner, and a time to check progress.

Reflection 3

Being needed for everything can leave little room to lead.

If every decision comes back to one person, examine how authority, information, and confidence are distributed.

Put it into practice

Ask yourself: Where are you providing support—and where are you becoming the route around someone else’s responsibility?

One action: Choose one decision to delegate with clear limits and a review point.

Reflection 4

Accountability belongs in the room with empathy.

Understanding someone’s experience can inform a fair response. It does not remove responsibility for how their behavior affects others.

Put it into practice

Ask yourself: What needs understanding, and what still needs to change?

One action: Prepare language that names the impact, the expectation, and the support available.

Reflection 5

Strong culture still needs attention.

Healthy working relationships benefit from time to reflect, refresh expectations, and notice what is changing.

Put it into practice

Ask yourself: Which everyday habit helps your team work well together—and is it still being practiced?

One action: Ask the team what should be protected as roles and demands change.

Reflection 6

The leader also needs room to think.

Reflection is part of the work of choosing a response, deciding a priority, and recognizing a trade-off.

Put it into practice

Ask yourself: Where are you reacting repeatedly because you have no time to examine the pattern?

One action: Protect a short block this week to look at one recurring issue before accepting another quick fix.

Which reflection follows you back to work?

Take the question into your next conversation, or explore the leadership situation behind it.
